Modern detailing products designed for collector and show vehicles go beyond standard car-wash supplies — they are formulated to be safe on single-stage paints, delicate chrome, and vintage interior materials that may not tolerate harsh modern chemicals.
Wash and Decontamination
Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash
A pH-balanced car wash that cleans without stripping existing wax or sealant. Gold Class is safe on both modern clearcoat and single-stage finishes common on classic cars. Use the two-bucket method (one wash, one rinse) to minimize swirl marks.
For decontamination after a thorough wash, a clay bar removes embedded contaminants (overspray, rail dust, industrial fallout) that washing alone cannot remove. Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit and the Chemical Guys OG Clay Bar are both effective.
Polish, Compound, and Correction
Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
Ultimate Compound is a one-step correction product that removes oxidation, light scratches, and swirl marks from both clearcoat and single-stage paint. Interior Care
Classic car interiors use materials that differ from modern vehicles — vinyl rather than leather in most applications, chrome and painted metal trim instead of plastic, and original carpets that may be irreplaceable. Use dedicated vinyl cleaners and protectants (303 Aerospace Protectant, Meguiar's Supreme Shine vinyl protectant) rather than silicone-based dressings that can cause cracking over time. Chrome and Metal
Mother's Mag Aluminum Polish
Mother's Mag is the standard polish for chrome bumpers, trim, and aluminum valve covers on classic cars. Apply with a microfiber or cotton cloth, buff to a mirror finish. For heavily tarnished chrome, a more aggressive chrome polish may be needed as a first step, followed by Mother's Mag for the final shine.
Storage Protection
Classic cars that are stored seasonally need additional protection. A breathable car cover (not plastic or non-breathable fabric) prevents dust accumulation while allowing moisture to escape. Desiccant packs inside the cabin reduce humidity. Fuel stabilizer in a full tank prevents varnish and phase separation. And a battery maintainer keeps the battery conditioned throughout storage.
